“I Had an Emptiness Inside”

When John’s sister took him home to live with her after he’d been hospitalized because of diabetes, he thought his prayers had been answered. “Her husband had died, and she came and got me … she said I could live with her, but I had to go to rehab because I was abusing drugs and alcohol.” John gladly complied and got the help he needed. In fact, he did so well that the ministry offered him a job at one of their facilities. But when funding was cut back, so was his job. He returned to Bakersfield only to discover that his sister had been diagnosed with cervical cancer.
