It was a very eventful summer at the Bakersfield Rescue Mission! From picnics, outings, presentations, family visits, and events, guests, program, and staff had a busy schedule.
Fifteen graduates completed their program at the Bakersfield Rescue Mission this summer. Twenty-five men and women made a commitment to join the one-year Christian Life Training Program from June thru August.
While classes, work therapy, and regular programs and services were offered all summer long, there was plenty of time for relaxation. Guests and program members enjoyed a 4th of July celebration, as well as various picnics and outdoor events all summer long. A popular activity was Movie Nights. Movies were played outside in Westbrook Pavilion and in HIS Drop-in Center after dark.
The Youth Department had a busy summer as well with summer day camp, away camp, and other activities. Children participated in painting a large mural in the new Family Fellowship Park. While a wildfire near Lake Hughes caused an evacuation and an early end for Away Camp, we were able to offer an alternative with a trip to Six Flags. Our Back-To-School Party was also a huge success. We distributed backpacks filled with school supplies to one hundred children in our Youth Department.
A special thank you to the numerous volunteers and donors who helped to make this summer a success! We could not provide the programs and services offered at the Bakersfield Rescue Mission without your help.
