A piece of cast-off cardboard can be a homeless person's best friend – or last resort. If you're lucky enough to get a whole box, it can be a home. Or the only suitcase you have for your meager belongings.
Here at the Bakersfield Rescue Mission, with your help, we replace cardboard with warm beds, serviceable shoes, clothing and a place to shelter from cold winter nights. We also provide hot meals and the means to end homelessness – one person at a time.

Eventually, he lost his home and ended up sleeping in the desert. A friend told Thomas about the Bakersfield Rescue Mission and he came here to "start getting things right." "I left the Mission. But God led me back here and I ended up spending a year in the Christian Life Training Program."
Thomas credits the Mission's program and the chance it gave him to get closer to God. "There are so many things God can do that are just beyond our imagination!"
