"Sober" For the First Time in 16 Years!

Misty...continued.

Both of Misty’s fathers care for her very much – her father of 34 years is taking care of her two sons, ages 15 and 11, while she's in our Christian Life Training Program. And her Heavenly Father has been looking over her all throughout her addiction – 16 years of meth abuse!

Misty learned about our Christ–centered recovery program through a friend who is a graduate. "She prayed with me and told me that it changed her life." Because of her friend's testimony, and because the program had the spiritual foundation Misty thought she needed, she came here as a condition of her probation.

"From the day I came here, I never looked back!"

Misty had a relationship with the Lord before she came to the Mission. But she says that "getting to know and build a relationship with Him is what's keeping me here today." From the classes she takes in anger management, relationships, relapse prevention, Bible studies and computers, everything revolves around the teachings and the study of Jesus Christ.

Misty also has a counselor who guides and directs her through the program as her life changes and she begins her new walk with Christ.

What's the biggest benefit Misty has gotten from the program? There's no doubt about it. It's "getting my family back." With her sons now living with their grandparents in Nevada, Misty doesn't see much of them. But a sister who lives here in Bakersfield visits with her three boys every Family Day.

And even though they can't see their mother, Misty's boys are proud of her! And her father has a job waiting for her when she graduates. As she nears graduation, Misty often shares her testimony with women who have just entered the program. "I tell them that a spiritual relationship with God is the only way to go. It's totally changed my life, and today I have a peace of mind that I've never had before."
